TALLAHASSEE –– Florida A&M Baseball continues with more accomplishments following their historic season as catcher Ty Hanchey has signed with the San Francisco Giants.
“I am thrilled that Ty Hanchey gets to live his dream of playing professional baseball!” said Head Baseball Coach Jamey Shouppe. “He has been a tremendous addition to our team for the last two seasons. His grit and determination will serve him well in pro ball!”
Hanchey had a stellar season for the Rattlers, tying with Ty Jackson for the most hits on the team with 76, both becoming ranked second all-time in hits for a season. Hanchey made Rattler history in Gainesville, becoming the first FAMU baseball player ever to be named to an NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team. After two seasons at FAMU, Hanchey finished his career with 130 hits, 14 home runs, a .349 batting average, and a .562 slugging percentage. Hanchey was named to the All-SWAC First Team.
Hanchey becomes the first Rattler to sign with an MLB team since Aubrey McCarty was drafted to the Colorado Rockies in the 26th round of the 2017 MLB Draft.
