ORLANDO – The Orlando Magic supports Social Justice Month, May 25-June 25, through participation in activities and celebrations around Central Florida. Throughout the month the Magic will support receptions, workshops, panels, training sessions and a gala. Other programs in the community will address issues including mental health resources, youth violence, improving local poverty outcomes and strengthening relationships between residents and law enforcement.
Orlando Magic supports Social Justice Month through the following events (past/upcoming):
May 25 – Magic Diversity Game Changer Reception Presented by Florida Blue; May 26 – Serving in the 21st Century Workshop Presented by Florida Blue; June 1 – Courtside Conversation with Dr. Phillips YMCA Youth; June 7 – Cost of Poverty Simulation Experience; June 13 – De-Escalation Training with Dr. Levitt of the Stono Institute; June 16 – Juneteenth Block Party; June 24 – City of Orlando Black History Gala
Social Justice Month begins on May 25 to commemorate the legacy of George Floyd and includes Juneteenth 407 Weekend culminating with the City of Orlando’s Black History Celebration Gala on June 24.
The Orlando Magic remains deeply committed to working collectively to promote peaceful and necessary social change. The Magic organization has always worked to create a culture where all feel welcomed, valued and appreciated, where all are treated with dignity and respect. Through the City of Orlando’s Social Justice Month, the Magic aim to inspire and empower individuals to take meaningful action towards building a more just and equitable community through ongoing conversations and perspectives working towards an even stronger Orlando.
