SEMINOLE COUNTY – The Seminole County Fire Department recently partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida – the Sanford and Altamonte branches – to host Club Members for career day about Firefighting.
More than 60 kids visited the Seminole County Fire Department’s Regional Training Center to experience what it was like to be a Firefighter for a Day. The kids experienced training exercises, drills and spoke with firefighters and had lunch with them.
“We have found that it is most beneficial to reach kids earlier in school before they reach high school,” said Lieutenant Chris Baker, who heads SCFD’s Diversity and Outreach initiatives. “When we talk to many kids, they say it had never crossed their minds that being a firefighter was even a viable career option. So we just want to show them that they have lots of options and lots of positive role models out there who can help them be whatever they want to be in life.”
