ORLANDO – The Mt. Pleasant Community Development Corporation (CDC) timely embarked on a successful journey to enact impactful initiatives aimed at fortifying our community’s foundation. The CDC program is designed to support the community with a clear vision: to strengthen our community by helping people.

The primary focus areas include youth mentoring/Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM), senior programs, financial literacy, and economic development. Currently and in line with its goal of area youth mentoring the CDC is featuring the second annual Dr. Stephen Brooks Memorial Scholarship with the 2025 winner to be announced forthcoming. The Scholarship was established to provide financial support to students who would like to realize their dream of academic success following high school graduation.

Dr. Stephen Brooks, September 10, 1950 – July 2, 2023, as scholarship donor was an exemplary local physician and beloved philanthropist.  He attended Stanford University for his undergraduate studies and Harvard Medical School for his medical degree.  Completing his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Florida in Gainesville he established his practice in Orlando. Dr. Brooks was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church of Orlando with a great passion for helping those who were in need.  He also served on the “Feed the Homeless” Ministry and volunteered many hours with a nonprofit organization that performs free eye surgery in underprivileged countries.
