SANFORD – The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens will celebrate the Black and African American communities with an evening of fun and educational activities as part of the annual summer cultural event series, Sunset at the Zoo.
The celebration will include music, food trucks, themed crafts, family activities and performances by the Orlando Steppers.
Several vendors are also scheduled to be in attendance, including Black Orlando Tech, The Black Express Company, Sonia’s Vokalized Kreations and CAUZ Clothing.
“Sunset at the Zoo is not just an event, but a community celebration,” said Zoo CEO Richard E. Glover, Jr. “We are excited to celebrate Black and African American communities at our favorite summer event.”
The Zoo reopens at 5 p.m. and offers fun until the sun goes down. Last admission for each event is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are only $6 when purchased in advance – that’s more than 70% OFF the price of a General Admission Zoo ticket. Families can also save and grab a family 4-pack with 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, and 4 drinks for just $44.
Sunset at the Zoo takes place on the fourth Friday of every month from May to September and allows Zoo guests to enjoy some extra-hours fun. In addition to exploring the Zoo during the cooler hours of the day, each month’s event celebrates a culture, complete with local community nonprofits, food trucks, cultural themed activities, and entertainment.
Other themes for this year’s Sunset events will include Native American & Alaska Native Heritage on August 23, and Hispanic Heritage on September 27. So far this year, the Zoo has celebrated Asian American & Pacific Islander heritage and LGBTQ+ Pride.
