LAKE COUNTY – The Tri-City Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) invites all to its first Freedom Fundraiser since the beginning of the COVID outbreak. In honor of Black History Month, this year we are offering Theater and Refreshments on Sunday, February 25, 2024. The play is Katori Hall’s Olivier Award-winning, The Mountaintop, a surrealistic fantasy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s, last night before he was assassinated. The event will take place at the Plaza Theater, formerly Theater 1901, 431 Plaza Drive, Eustis, Florida, 32726, from 3-7pm. Donation is $65 per person. Show off your favorite Afrocentric attire, if you choose. There will be guests, prizes, and raffles.
Tri-City NAACP Branch has served the Lake, Sumter, and lower Marion Counties since 1945. Our mission is to fight for the civil rights of all people. We are a non-partisan, multiracial, membership organization that focuses on issues, without regard to political party.
In addition to educating the community on disparities in accessing healthcare, quality education, veterans benefits, and affordable housing, one of our most important roles is to help register voters, educate them on key legislation and relevant issues, and ensure they exercise their right to vote. We also teach leadership skills to the youth and young adults. We do not endorse candidates.
“We look forward to enjoying the production about Dr King and spending the afternoon with fellow civil rights supporters,” says Branch President Martha Taylor.
