KISSIMMEE – The City of Kissimmee officially kicked off the renovation of the Chambers Park Community Center today, marking the beginning of an exciting transformation to enhance the space for residents and visitors.
The renovation project will bring several key upgrades to the community center, with improvements planned for both the interior and exterior of the facility. These include a new roof, updated lobby and restrooms, and an upgraded façade that aligns with the city’s new design standards, ensuring the building remains a vital and modern space for years to come.
A significant highlight of the project is the receipt of $500,000 from the African-American Cultural and Historical Grant, administered by the Florida Department of State’s Division of Historical Resources. This grant, which requires no match from the city, will help fund the renovations, ensuring the community center continues to serve the residents of Kissimmee.
“This is one of the first projects in a $150 million-plus capital campaign, where the City of Kissimmee will invest in infrastructure over the next few years,” said Mike Steigerwald, City Manager of Kissimmee. “These projects will include upgrades to transportation, new parks, miles of bike trails, community centers, and expansions to public safety facilities like the police station and fire stations. It’s a broad range of initiatives to continue improving life for our residents, businesses, and visitors.”
To mark the occasion, a countdown led to the start of demolition by heavy equipment on-site, kicking off the exterior renovation and clearing the way for the upcoming upgrades.
“We are so excited to kick off this much-needed renovation today,” said Jackie Espinosa, City Mayor of Kissimmee. “This investment represents our commitment to improving one of Kissimmee’s long-standing neighborhoods. Renovating Chambers Park Community Center is about creating a safe, accessible, and welcoming place for our residents, whether attending a class, participating in an event, or simply enjoying the park.”
As this project moves forward, the City of Kissimmee reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the continued safety, accessibility, and relevance of its public spaces. The Chambers Park Community Center renovation is just one example of the city’s dedication to enhancing spaces where residents come together to engage, learn, and enjoy their community.
