Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc. Celebrates the Chartering of Nu Eta Eta Chapter in Orlando

ORLANDO — The city of Orlando celebrated a historic milestone on August 10, 2024, with the official chartering of the Nu Eta Eta Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc. This event marked a significant step forward in the sorority’s unwavering mission of “Service for Humanity.”

Founded in 1932 by Registered Nurse Aliene Carrington Ewell and 11 other registered nurses, Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc. has a long and distinguished history of service. The organization was established during a time when African American nurses faced significant discrimination and limited professional opportunities. In response, Ewell and her colleagues created Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc. to support professional development, promote excellence in nursing, and address the healthcare needs of underserved populations.

Over the decades, the sorority has grown into a nationally recognized nursing professional organization, with chapters across the United States and in the U.S Virgin Islands. Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc. is committed to fostering the next generation of nursing leaders and providing critical health services to communities in need. Its members, who include nurses in all areas of nursing and nursing students that are united by a shared commitment to service, leadership, and scholarship.

The establishment of this new chapter extends Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc.’s reach, bringing vital health and community initiatives to the Orlando area. The organization is composed of nurses from diverse backgrounds, including private practice, local hospitals, and academia, all united in their dedication to advancing the sorority’s vision and mission within the community.

The chartering ceremony was a vibrant and memorable occasion, attended by members of the national organization, local dignitaries, and community leaders. Also, in attendance were National President of Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc. – Dr. Sarah M. Killian, National Organizer – Zenobia Richbourgh, and Second National VP – Samantha Agee. The weekend kicked off with a formal ceremony that was exclusive for members of the sorority to welcome the new members. The event featured speeches from prominent sorority members and local officials, who highlighted the crucial role the organization plays in the community. Members from three of the sorority’s five regions were present, contributing to the event’s success.

Nu Eta Eta Chapter underscores Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc.’s enduring commitment to addressing the healthcare needs of underserved communities. The chapter has already planned several initiatives, including health education workshops, free health screenings, and mentorship programs for aspiring nurses. These initiatives are aimed at improving health outcomes in Orlando, especially in communities that have historically faced challenges in accessing healthcare. The chartering members of the Nu Eta Eta chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc. include Wyniqua Brown, René Hamm, Heather Peralta, Destini Bannister, Tory Brown, Stacey Wallace, Justine Kuroda, Catherine Thomas, Coleen Cox, Constance Brown, Yolanda Lindo, Geraldine Luzincourt, and Jacqueline Jenkins.

Members of the Nu Eta Eta Chapter are already deeply involved in the community, organizing events to provide resources and support to those in need. The chapter has formed partnerships with local charitable organizations such as Matthew’s Hope and The Mustard Seed, and they are preparing to promote health and wellness at the 4th annual BLK JOY Festival this August.
