DORA – Four community activists were installed into the Criterion Civic Club, Inc. at the October meeting. First, the ladies ate a hearty dinner of baked potato, sliced ham, baked chicken, and seasoned string beans. Then newly elected President, Ms. Brenda Major Jones, set the atmosphere as she called the meeting to order.
Criterion Club members honored the outgoing President Georgette P. Ward for dedicated service with a plaque depicting a gavel for her leadership and service during 2022 through 2024.
The new inductees were businesswoman Ms. Darlene Rocker; Attorney Darlene B. Alexander; Marquesa Shawn Wethington, President of the Leesburg Chapter of National Council of Negro Woman, and Frederica Mack, a Lake County educator and community activist.
“As the incoming president it was a beautiful ceremony. I do believe we inducted some amazing women that are ready to do what they can to keep the Criterion Civic Club, Inc. shining in the community,” said President Brenda Majors.
The Criterion theme is we will “Take Control and Make Health Your Goal” as seasoned women we are more concerned about incorporating healthy habits not only in our lives but also by supporting blood drives, healthcare events with other community organizations.
The meeting was held Friday evening, October 18th, 2024, at the Mt. Dora Country Club, located at 1900 Country Club Blvd.
