Decades Of Dedication: Celebrating 62 Years Of Faith And Fellowship

ORLANDO – This year, we commemorate 62 years of God’s faithfulness to us at Washington Shores Church of Christ (WSCC). This special occasion calls for a special celebration! Please join us for a special church anniversary worship service on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., followed by our Revival on Monday – Wednesday (6/24-6/26/) at 6:30 p.m. nightly. Our celebration will include lots of special music, praise dance, inspiring messages from our guest speakers, and a great opportunity to catch up with our extended church family. We hope to welcome many of our friends who have attended WSCC over the years and meet new friends who would like to attend!

We are hosting a Free Community Day Health Fair & Job Fair on Saturday, 6/22/24 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at 2818 Orange Center Blvd., Orlando, FL 32805 to kick off this monumental occasion.

WSCC Historical Highlights

Nestled in the heart of the Washington Shores Community, The Historic Washington Shores Church of Christ (WSCC) was established under the pastorate of William Ellis, a graduate of the College of the Scriptures.  Pastor Ellis and his wife, Bobbie Jean Ellis, and their 3 children Bill, Jackie, and Phil moved to the area and established WSCC as a mission church on June 17, 1962, at Minor Street Recreation Center which is now the L. Claudia Allen Center.

At that time there was a small but faithful band of seventeen worshippers who made up the membership of the new congregation. By December 1965 the congregation grew to forty-five members. Our first sanctuary, which is now Ellis Hall, was built in 1965 and held 225 people. We continued to expand with God’s help and were blessed with the construction of our Fellowship Hall, a youth facility, in 1971. In 2003, the Lord favored us with a new edifice to worship in (our Main Sanctuary) that houses 400 people.

Sadly in 2004, Brother Ellis was called home after his long tenure as Senior Pastor for 42 years. Pastors Darrell Hairston (2012-2023) and John Fuller (2006-2010) served as our Senior Pastors at WSCC from 2006 to 2023, respectively.

The vision did not die in the hearts of many who started on this journey.  Jesus will never leave you nor forsake that which is committed unto him. God has continued to bless us immensely under the leadership of a very courageous man of God; Pastor Trevonte Peterson Sr. on the 62nd commemoration year of the congregation. He was elected and hired in October 2023 and is known as a gifted preacher, teacher, and leader for the cause of Christ. Pastor Peterson is married to Marissa Peterson, and they have two beautiful children, Makynlee (8) and Trevonte Jr (2).

As an emerging intellectual influencer and dedicated servant of this present age, Pastor Petersons’ ministry meets at a critical crossroads of Christianity and Community. By bridging the gap, he believes that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is sufficient to tie every generation to God that is willing to accept it. His commitment to preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ has provided many opportunities to spread his convictions across generations in the United States and abroad.

Through Pastor Peterson’s ministry, the Lord has continued to abundantly bless and pour out His Spirit upon us in just six short months at WSCC. We are in “The Year of Transition”, and the Lord is preparing us to do a mighty and glorious work for Him as we move forward to develop new and innovative programs to enhance our ministry. We are building to the glory and honor of God so that His kingdom will come, and His Divine will be done. The Lord is the King over this house of worship, and the Holy Spirit governs our ministry. He has done great and marvelous things, and we are elated with joy and gladness to be under the new leadership of Pastor Trevonte Peterson Sr.

For 62 years the Lord has given us sound doctrine, wisdom, power, and love. He has kept, strengthened, and healed us. He has delivered, freed, rewarded, and blessed us mightily. Blessed be the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
