Donald Variste’s Two Act Stage Play “Russian Roulette, It Wasn’t Me,” Is Set To Make Its Debut In Sanford

Donald Variste

SANFORD – This stage play is the new hit show written by the creative, playwright, producer, and stage director himself, Donald Variste. Variste, a Haitian American artist, is well known in Jackson, Mississippi; Birmingham, Alabama; Tampa, Florida; and Orlando, Florida and its surrounding areas and is respected for previously hosting two sold out shows “Church Hurts,” and “I hate my in-laws,” at the Wayne Densch Theater. With a show like no other, he is ready to make his return to that same theater after being silent due to the pandemic. Tickets are already selling fast as the public has been anticipating an exceptional new play based on Donald’s reputation for delivering life-changing performances. This new story will be highlighting a topic that is sometimes considered taboo in our community, “mental illness.” The author took his time to write on this subject as he himself has struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts. In addition, he has also been around friends and family members who have battled with different forms of mental illnesses. Even some of his cast members attest that this story hits home for them. Needless to say, that this theme is very dear to the author’s heart and his hope is that this production not only brings more awareness on the matter, but also that people walk out restored from their personal struggles. Come prepared on July 29th at 7:30 PM to witness a mixture of drama, laughter, suspense, and thought provoking and inspirational scenes. The cast includes seasoned and experienced actors from all over the country who are ready to deliver from a place of fighting and overcoming mental illness themselves.

At a young age, Elijah was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Despite his psychiatric condition, his creativity allowed him to become a successful author. He even managed to marry his soulmate; however, once he stopped taking his medications, his life “took a downward spiral” and the person he loved the most fell victim to his demons. Will his servants be able to drag him out of that dark hole? Can love forgive and triumph? Is healing from a wound caused by a 10-year secret possible?
