Florida Blue Medicare & United Against Poverty Launch New Grocery Card Program For HMO-DSNP Members

ORLANDO – Florida Blue Medicare and United Against Poverty (UP) have launched a new grocery card partnership program for 2023 that will allow Florida Blue Medicare HMO-DSNP (Dual Special Needs Plan) Members the ability to eat healthy and save money.  Now, Florida Blue Medicare HMO-DSNP Members can save up to 70% on healthy food items when they use their Blue Dollars Card to shop at UP’s Member Share Grocery Centers.

To get started, Florida Blue Medicare Members on the BlueMedicare Complete (HMO-DSNP) plan will need to activate their Blue Dollars Card once they receive it in the mail from Florida Blue Medicare.  Then, they just need to visit the Welcome Desk in an UP Member Share Grocery Center to get their membership, at no cost to them, to begin shopping.  The BlueMedicare Complete (HMO-DSNP) plan includes a monthly allowance for food for members using their Blue Dollars card.

The program is available at each of UP’s four Florida locations in Fort Pierce (UP St. Lucie), Orlando (UP Orlando), and Vero Beach (UP Indian River North & UP Indian River South).  In addition, Florida Blue Medicare HMO-DSNP Members can get a ride to and from UP Member Share Grocery Centers at no extra cost to them.

“We’re truly excited to add this new store location for our Florida Blue Medicare HMO-DSNP Members.  Anytime we can create programs that can bring additional savings to our members is a great thing for our entire community.  Especially, while inflation is on the rise and the cost of healthy food items continues to climb.  We’ve been a long-time partner of United Against Poverty and are proud to work together to make a lasting impact to improve food security not just here in Central Florida, but throughout the state as well” said Florida Blue Central Florida Market President Tony Jenkins.

“We are proud to partner with Florida Blue to offer Medicare members access to the United Against Poverty Member Share Grocery Program” said Gwendolyn Butson, Chief Executive Officer of United Against Poverty.  “We are thrilled to begin accepting the Florida Blue, Blue Dollars card at all our Member Share Grocery Centers.  With the rise in food prices, our Member Share Grocery Program helps individuals and families in Central Florida and on the Treasure Coast save as much as 70% on their grocery budgets. We know food insecurity is a real concern and our grocery program provides members access to nutritious foods so families can experience the joy of sharing meals.”

Florida Blue Medicare and United Against Poverty will be hosting two member events at the UP Orlando Member Grocery Center on Thursday, January 19, 2023 and Friday, January 20, 2023 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. for members to come and see it firsthand.
