LEESBURG – In celebration of Juneteenth, now a federal holiday recognizing the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas found out they had been freed, wholesome packages of food will be distributed, vaccinations for Hepatitis A will be administered by Lake County’s Public Health Department, HIV counseling and testing, and more will be available from 9 am – 4 pm at the Juneteenth Well-Being Celebration Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Leesburg’s Resource Center at 1041 CR 468, Leesburg, Florida 34748.
Sponsored by Farm Share Food Distribution and coordinated by Leesburg’s Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, the wholesome event to improve the community’s health by providing nutritious food and vaccinations, and HIV counseling and testing is the result of a collaboration of community organizations and agencies.
“This event is for the betterment of our community”, said Elijah Fletcher, Keeper of Records for Leesburg Alumni Chapter. “Our fraternity promotes providing food, clothing and health because it promotes the well-being of the community.”
Also included at the social occasion will be voter information and registration by All About the Ballot. Franks, hamburgers, and drink will be provided from 12 to 4 pm.
