Grandchild’s College Graduation Encourages Lady Lake, Florida, Family

BY GEORGETTE WARD

GAMBIER, OH – Talisha Charyce Monique Ward, the third grandchild of Louis and Georgette Ward of Lady Lake, Florida, received her Bachelor of Arts Cum Laude Degree in American Studies from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, on May 20, 2023.

Talisha, the third oldest of 10 grandchildren, has established a reference point for her siblings and cousins to achieve as her two oldest sisters have done before her.  She received an internship at the Central Park Conservatory in New York, where she will work to restore many of the park’s monuments.

Talisha represented her student group with a speech at the Keep & Stem Senior Recognition Luncheon Friday morning. Personally telling her student peers, “We barely knew each other, then we had two classes together. It is interesting remembering these four years in which we became close.  Now as we walk the campus passing each other, we say, “let’s do lunch,” which is still to happen. I’ll miss you, but will give you a call when I come to your state.”

Kenyon College’s Baccalaureate Service included the reading of Texts from the Kenyon Educational programs of Fine Arts and Social Sciences. It was interesting to hear the diverse religious traditions which included Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Islamic and Jewish faiths.

Saturday, May 20, the 195th Commencement Exercise was held on the Samuel Mather Lawn.  A very informative presentation on the importance of climate control and the repercussions facing the world if nothing is done was addressed by Colette J. Pichon Battle the Climate Activist, Attorney, Policymaker, Obama Fellow, and Alumna from the class of l997.

The graduation event became an enjoyable and inspiring two-day family and friend’s affair.  The entire Ward family conveys its best wishes and congratulations to you, Talisha, on this monumental achievement in your life and your fellow graduate students from Kenyon College.
