LEESBURG – Arriving in cars, vans, and pick-up trucks more than 500 families were able to avoid paying the high prices of food items for a short time when they received food packages containing fresh potatoes, milk, fish, and cases of water at the food drive on Saturday morning, October 26, 2024, at the Leesburg Resource Center located at 1041 County Road 468, Leesburg, Florida 34748.
Sponsored by the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Leesburg, Florida, Alumni Chapter in partnership with Farm Share, which has been staying true to its motto: “No Person Goes Hungry, No Food Goes to Waste” since 1991.
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Polemarch Nathaniel Sanders said, “The Leesburg Alumni Chapter is serving our community as we should and will continue to build a positive relationship with our community any way we can. I want to thank all our volunteers for making this event successful because we could not have done it without you.”
“I have seen the need in Lake County for more than just food,” said Elijah Fletcher III. “That’s why this event focuses on more than just food. It focuses on different types of needs including vaccinations, disease screenings, social issues, voting rights, and literacy.”
“This food will help my family a great deal”, said Georgette. “With price gorging on food items, the sack of white potatoes and two gallons of milk will go a long way for our grandkids. We are very grateful to have been blessed to receive this food and drink.”
The successful food distribution event pulled together volunteers from the Florida Department of Health who provided vaccinations for the flu, condoms, HIV home testing kits, and Narcan, which can save lives from those individuals who overdose on fentanyl, the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Leesburg Alumnae Chapter, Guide Right Kappa League, Lake County Chamber of Commerce, and Lake County Sheriff’s Department.
