ORANGE COUNTY – Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings has announced a staff appointment to fill a vacancy in his administration. Marthaly Irizarry has been named Special Assistant to Mayor Demings and will act as a liaison to the Hispanic community.
The position is responsible for coordinating engagement activities and services in the Hispanic Community. The position will also create outreach efforts to educate the public on services associated with Orange County Government, as well as represent Orange County at related community events.
“I’m pleased to make this key staff member appointment, and I have the utmost confidence in Marthaly’s abilities to represent Orange County,” said Mayor Demings. “She will be an enormous asset to the leadership of Orange County Government and the Hispanic community.”
Irizarry has worked for Orange County government for the past 27 years serving as the Project Coordinator Neighborhood Services Division and the Economic Development Coordinator in the Office of Economic, Trade and Tourism Development. In this capacity, she assisted in fostering international trade and investment partnerships, skillfully managing protocol for the Mayor’s Office during engagement with foreign dignitaries.
In addition, Irizarry has been an active member of the Orange County Hispanic Heritage Network, since 1999 proudly embodying her cultural heritage. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, she moved to Orlando in the 1990s. She has a BS degree in Business Administration from the University of Central Florida and a Master’s degree in Public Administration, also from UCF.
“I am honored to help enhance the relationship between the Hispanic community and Orange County Government,” said Irizarry. “I look forward to working with residents and businesses to support Mayor Demings vision of creating a community culture of innovation, collaboration, and inclusion.”
The appointment took place April 1, 2024. Irizarry takes over the position previously held by Ilia Torres.
