NAACP And American Red Cross Shelter Fundamentals Training Offered Locally

ORLANDO – The NAACP Florida State Conference is partnering with the Red Cross to offer a free and important Shelter Fundamentals Training course where volunteers can learn the skills necessary to open and operate a safe and secure shelter for displaced individuals and families. The training is Friday, June 7, 2024, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Rosen Centre Hotel, 9840 International Drive, Orlando, FL 32819.  The 4 HR certificate training class is for any adult interested person or community partners, church representatives, local groups and civic, fraternal and community organizations and all are invited and urged to participate.  The free event is open to the public with both lunch and parking also free.  To attend you must register at by June 5, 2024.

Importantly, in Florida hurricanes, tornadoes, extreme heat, floods, and fires are becoming more frequent and intense.  The 2024 hurricane season is predicted to be above average due to rising temperatures.  Residents should and must be able to assist their families and communities during natural disasters.  At this training you can learn how to provide essential shelter and support for your vulnerable community during an emergency.  And in times of crisis a shelter can be a lifesaving beacon of hope for the community.
