New Year’s Resolutions For 2024:  Clean-Up 2023 Events That Polarized America

From the overturning of Roe vs. Wade to laws passed by Florida’s legislature which banned books, authorized concealed carry without a government-issued permit, eliminated a unanimous jury decision for the death penalty, and defunded diversity, equity and inclusion programs.  For most Floridians, we’re happy 2023 has come to an end.

It’s resolution time. When we make our personal pledges to upgrade our quality of life, resolving to improve our mental and physical health, save more money, lose weight, pursue a higher-paying job, enhance our happiness, and more.

Because of the various events and laws passed in the sunshine state, I pray that all Floridians resolve to upgrade our personal lives but to also resolve to get involved to do what is necessary on a personal level to save our Democracy. Encouraged those who feel the voting process has failed them to register to vote. The ballot is our major weapon against anyone or any group that supports an authoritarian government in the White House or state and local governments, like our school boards and city councils.

As you work to complete your resolutions, please join an organization that will motivate, register, and educate voters about the importance of the 2024 presidential and local elections in your communities.

Make your voice heard, advocating for policies that will make our lives equitable, affording the pursuit of a decent life for everyone regardless of race, gender, or a person’s sexual preferences and religious beliefs a reality.

I implore you to set a goal along with your personal resolutions that will preserve our Democracy and elect candidates who will work in the best interest of their constituents who elected them.

Let’s not set unattainable resolutions and unrealistic goals for 2024. Instead monitor your progress and make adjustments when necessary to both your personal resolutions and your commitment to our country.

2024 is not only about personal resolutions, but it’s also about maintaining our freedom and the right to pursue happiness. Let’s get busy improving our personal lives and safeguarding our Democracy from politicians who attempted to overturn the 2020 presidential election, who believed January 6 wasn’t an insurrection, and who are willing to allow America to fall into a dictatorship.
