Open Auditions For Play On! At Ritz Theater

Wednesday, February 21, 6:30pm – 9pm & Thursday, February 22, 6:30pm – 9pm

SANFORD – The Ritz Theatre at the Wayne Densch Performing Arts Center seeks actors with strong comic timing who enjoy the inside jokes of community theatre for the comedy “Play On!” by Rick Abbot. Director Jenny Congiardo will fill 10 roles for this three-act ensemble production. All roles are open.

Actors are asked to complete an audition application (available on our website), prepare a short comedic monologue, and to be prepared to read from the script. Callbacks, if needed, will be on Friday, February 9. The rehearsal schedule will be determined based on cast availability and include weeknight evenings and some weekends.

The show as written includes 7 women and 3 men of various ages. Character descriptions are available on the website however this should not be seen as a limiting factor. There is flexibility with all roles, and ALL interested parties are encouraged to audition. The goal is a diverse cast of enthusiastic performers having fun!  This is a non-equity, non-profit, professionally managed theater production. Actors are volunteers and are not paid.

One plucky community theatre is about to produce a show called Murder Most Foul, a new “murder mystery play” with the same title as an Agatha Christie novel but with no relation whatsoever. The director/theatre manager, Gerry, thought producing the play was a good idea since the inexperienced playwright had agreed to let the company perform the show for no charge. However, she had no idea what disasters awaited her: the show is hilariously amateur, the “murder mystery” plot doesn’t really have a murder, and to top it off the playwright keeps changing the story and script only two days from its premiere. Even the sound effects reap their share of laughter. Play On! is a hilarious love letter to community theater.

Sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Arts & Culture, and by the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.
