ORANGE COUNTY – Orange County today announced a record-breaking year of giving for the 2023 employee donation campaign to benefit the Heart of Florida United Way. For the first time, the campaign – which includes employees from Orange County Government, along with constitutional partners, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Clerk of Court, Supervisor of Elections, and the Comptroller’s Office – surpassed last year’s total by 25 percent and reached $1 million for the first time. The grand total of $1,036,807 was revealed in a fun-filled celebration with nearly 300 people attending.
“I am very proud of our team and the employees from the other constitutional offices in Orange County,” said Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings. “To personally give their money, time, and talent to benefit others in our community and to reach $1 million for the first time demonstrates commitment to selflessness. These funds will go a long way to support our neighbors in need through the organizations funded by the Heart of Florida United Way.”
Most of the funds were raised through the employee donation campaign. In addition, County employees plan events throughout the year to create awareness about the services offered through Heart of Florida United Way. United Way supports programs for veterans, provides hurricane recovery resources, job placement assistance, and financial support for households in a difficult situation.
“Orange County Government partners with Heart of Florida United Way to support residents through a vast array of programs, “said Carrie Mathes, Chairman of the Orange County Heart of Florida United Way Campaign. “We are honored to be joined by fantastic community leaders and our own employees who proudly serve and financially support these programs. Reaching $1 million is a testament to the generosity of our employees.”
In addition to employee payroll deductions, County fundraising events included an annual golf tournament, which raised over $103,000; the Orange County Fire Rescue 343 challenge event, which raised over $48,000 and numerous other fundraising events and activities.
“Orange County Government continues to lead the charge for our community,” said Jeff Hayward, President & CEO of Heart of Florida United Way. “We are beyond grateful for the generosity of Orange County Government employees and choosing to LIVE UNITED.”
