ORANGE COUNTY – In front of members of the public and the Orange County Canvassing Board, the Orange County Supervisor of Elections office completed a successful test of its voting tabulation equipment ahead of the August 20 Primary Election.

During the Logic and Accuracy test (Florida Statute 101.5612), pre-filled test ballots are scanned through randomly selected machines to confirm that the scanners are counting votes correctly and reading every section of the ballot.

The machines chosen at random were:

  • Seven (7) DS950s which are used tabulate Vote-By-Mail
  • Seven (7) DS300s which are used to tabulate Early Voting
  • Twelve (12) DS300s which are used to tabulate Election Day

In Florida, election supervisors are required by law to use equipment that meets state certification standards and to perform a public Logic and Accuracy test before every election. Following the test, the Canvassing Board reviews the results and certifies that the equipment is up to state standards for the election.

During Friday’s test, all machines performed exactly as expected, correctly tabulating the stacks of pre-filled ballots.

“In a county this size it takes an amazing team to ensure every machine is ready to go for the election,” said Orange County Chief Technical Services Officer Luis Torres. “The more than three dozen staff members who worked to make today happen will now begin deploying this equipment across the county as we prepare for early voting and election day.”

Now that the test is finished, all election equipment will be sealed and kept under constant surveillance until it is delivered to its election site.

Orange County Canvassing Board members include Judge Jeanette Dejuras Bigney, County Commissioner Maribel Gomez Cordero, Orange County Supervisor of Elections Glen Gilzean, and alternate Judge Steve Jewett.
