ORANGE COUNTY – The United States Postal Service collected 80,789 vote-by-mail ballots from the Orange County Supervisor of Elections office on Wednesday morning as the office begins mailing ballots for the upcoming August Primary Election.

The 80,789 ballots represent the first batch the office will mail out over the next few weeks.

As of 7:55 AM on Wednesday, July 17, the Orange County Supervisor of Elections Office has received 84,782 total requests for vote-by-mail ballots for the primary election.

Wednesday’s vote-by-mail ballots are in addition to the more than 600 military and overseas ballots mailed out by the Orange County Supervisor of Elections office on July 1st.

“Getting this many ballots mailed out more than a month before the election is a monumental undertaking that would not have been possible without an amazing team,” said Orange County Director of Vote-By-Mail and Elections Kasheem Traylor. “We still have several thousand more ballots to mail out and will continue to process requests as we get closer to the election.”

Voters have until 5 PM on Thursday, August 8, to request a vote-by-mail ballot for the primary election.

While overall requests for vote-by-mail ballots have increased in the last four weeks, the numbers are still well behind where they were for the primary in 2020 (214,555) and 2022 (195,935).

Vote-by-mail requests expire after each federal general election cycle. Therefore, all vote-by-mail requests expired on December 31, 2022.
