Orange County Supervisor Of Elections Participates In Security Briefing

Empowering Voters, Enhancing Access: A Milestone in Electoral Transparency and Innovation

ORANGE COUNTY – On Friday Orange County Supervisor of Elections Glen Gilzean was joined by Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, representatives from the Department of Justice, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency for a security briefing.

“Elections are like any other form of critical infrastructure, so it is vitally important to have every agency involved in safeguarding the process at the table to ensure that we are all on the same page regarding safety and security,” said Supervisor of Elections Gilzean.

In June, the supervisor notified staff that federal agents would be visiting the elections facility for information gathering to prepare for a multi-agency security briefing.

Friday’s briefing comes as the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency have been monitoring low-level attacks aimed at election offices nationwide (https://www.ic3.gov/Media/Y2024/PSA240731).

The precautionary briefing was designed to openly discuss emerging global threats and issues of concern and was not the result of any specific incident. The office will continue to work with state and federal partners as it prepares for the upcoming elections.
