Orange County Supervisor Of Elections Reminds Voters To Check Their Voter Information Ahead Of August Primary

Empowering Voters, Enhancing Access: A Milestone in Electoral Transparency and Innovation

ORANGE COUNTY – The deadline to register to vote or to switch political affiliation is less than a month away.

In Florida, the deadline to register for an upcoming election is 29 days before the election, this year for the August Primary Election the deadline is July 22, 2024.

Florida is a closed primary state, while voters are not required to declare a party preference, state law dictates that primary voters can only vote for candidates in their party.

“In a primary election, a qualified elector is entitled to vote the official primary election ballot of the political party designated in the elector’s registration, and no other.” (101.021)

There are, however, races where all voters regardless of party affiliation will be allowed to vote. These races include nonpartisan races as well as races where all candidates for an office have the same party affiliation and the winner of the primary will not face opposition in the general election.

“Now is the time to ensure you are registered to vote and make sure your registration reflects your plans for the primary,” said Orange County Supervisor of Elections Glen Gilzean. “We are proud to offer several resources for voters to make sure all of their information is correct or register to vote if they have not already.”
