ORLANDO – After opening in August of 2023, the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute is proud to announce that it has served 1,000 patients at its specialty hospital.

Winter Springs resident James Brewer was the 1,000th patient. He underwent a knee procedure at the hospital on December 4 with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Frank Avilucea.

“It’s an exciting milestone,” said Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute President Carlos Carrasco. “We’ve received great feedback from our patients since opening our doors and strive to provide unmatched patient care and experience every day.”

Located at the corner of Columbia St. and Lucerne Terrace in Orlando, the 375,000-square-foot, seven-story institute is the first of its kind in the southeastern U.S. The specialty hospital opened on August 29, 2023. The medical pavilion, which is adjacent to the hospital, was completed in March of 2023 and includes an ambulatory surgery center, walk-in orthopedic clinic, and rehabilitation space. The medical pavilion also offers imaging, pharmacy and lab services.

“I was very impressed with my team of doctors from the very beginning,” Brewer explained. “They answered all of my questions and put me at ease before surgery. I would rate bedside manner at 100 percent.”

In addition to serving more than 1,000 patients inside the hospital, the medical pavilion has received an estimated 137,000 visits since opening in March.
