OUC MLK Jr. Day Events

ORLANDO – OUC continued its strong commitment and proud sponsorship of the Orlando Mayor’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission with several memorable events held in January. On Jan. 13, OUC employees and their families marched in the 40th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. parade in Downtown Orlando. Thousands of marchers and spectators were in attendance to support the parade’s theme: “It Starts with Me – Shifting the Cultural Climate Through the Study and Practice of Kingian Nonviolence.”

On Jan. 15, OUC team members Mimi Layton, Senior Talent Development Consultant, and Corey Johnson, Water Operations Manager, participated in the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission’s Great Day of Service at the Orange County Convention Center. They joined 5,000 other volunteers to pack and distribute one million healthy meals of food relief throughout Central Florida.

Since 2008, Corey Johnson has represented OUC on the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission, helping plan the week’s events every year. Other January events organized by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission included the MLK Candlelight Vigil and March held Jan. 7, the 37th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Luncheon on Jan. 12, and the 20th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Forum, among others.
