In honor of Juneteenth, Heart of Florida United Way (HFUW) hosted a unique event to recognize Central Florida’s history and offer an opportunity to discuss how we shape our future. HFUW hosted a community screening of its documentary-style film Know Your Place, along with a fireside chat with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Gilbert King. King is the author of Devil in the Grove, a New York Times best-seller that chronicles the attorney Thurgood Marshall’s defense of four young black men in Lake County who came to be known as the “Groveland Four.” Attendees heard King’s commentary on Central Florida’s painful past and reaction to the film, a meet-and-greet with the esteemed author.
