KISSIMMEE – The City of Kissimmee Fire Department, in partnership with HCA Florida Osceola Hospital, hosted a special recognition event on Thursday, November 21, to honor the efforts that saved a resident’s life.
The resident was critically injured in a vehicle-pedestrian accident while riding an electric bike. His heart stopped, and his chances of survival were less than 3%. However, thanks to the quick and coordinated response of the Kissimmee Police Department, Kissimmee Fire Department, and hospital staff, he was resuscitated and walked out of the hospital 20 days later.
During the ceremony, the survivor expressed his gratitude, recounting his experience and emotional recovery journey. Remarkably, he shared the news that he and his partner are expecting a baby and expressed his profound appreciation for the quick actions of the team that gave him a second chance at life.
Kissimmee Fire Chief James Walls recognized the critical timing and collaboration involved in the response. “The police officer who administered CPR, followed by our crews who arrived on the scene, worked in perfect synchronization with dispatchers and hospital staff. Everything had to happen at just the right moment for him to be with us today,” Chief Walls stated.
The ceremony concluded with certificates of recognition presented to each responder involved, celebrating their teamwork and dedication.
The Kissimmee Fire Department stands with the Kissimmee Police Department and HCA Florida Osceola Hospital in celebrating the collaborative efforts in saving this resident’s life, ensuring he will be there to welcome the child he and his partner are expecting.
