ORANGE COUNTY – The Orange County Florida Voters League and several community partners presented an Orlando City District 6 Candidates Forum at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 11 at the Dr. James R. Smith Center, 1723 Bruton Boulevard. The two candidates, incumbent Commissioner Bakari Burns and challenger Rufus Hawkins, presented their answers to the deftly fielded questions and inquiries of community concerns that were presented to them.  The questions were assembled from the presenting organizations and from the attending audience submissions. The program drew a capacity crowd and also included community and public officials along with candidates for other offices that were introduced.

The Orange County Chapter of the Florida Voters League purpose is to promote political responsibility of Florida citizens through voter education, voter registration, and voter participation.  Voters League President Larry Colleton and his event staff worked actively and diligently in supporting their purpose and program and it showed well in the involvement and enthusiasm displayed by the rapt and attentive audience.  And altogether the event proved both informative and insightful while provided the audience with knowledge and food for thought as they consider their voting choice in the upcoming District 6 election.
