LAKE COUNTY – Wildwood Middle High School student Rhyen Haugabrook “complained about the sport numerous times prior to the competition” held Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Mt Dora Christian Academy.
After placing third for lifting 75 pounds against other high school students, Rhyen, a seventh grader and in her first year of participating in the weight lifting sport, will represent her school at the regionals’ competition Friday, February 3, 2023.
Rhyen’s Mom was “both surprised and excited” after seeing her daughter compete and win against other high school students. “When I actually saw her perform and how well she did, I almost cried,” revealed Mom Haugabrook. “I was so proud of her for not quitting and sticking with it.”
It was obvious that Rhyen was stunned and felt very accomplished when they called her name. “I was shocked!” Rhyen said. When you’re a winner it makes you feel different. Now, Rhyen has a different attitude about the sport of weight lifting – “I like it”
